Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 2 cups AP flour

  • ½ cup shortening

  • 1 stick unsalted butter

  • 1 cup water

  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder

  • ½ cup buttermilk

  • 2 eggs beaten

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a saucepan combine water, margarine, butter and cocoa. Bring to a boil and take off heat. Cool a bit. Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the liquids and eggs. Pour into a greased cake pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
